Winter Storm: What You Need to Know in the Caldwells

A running list of cancellations, postponements and more. Plus, important snow removal rules to remember.

More than a foot of snow is projected to dump on the Caldwells before this winter storm is through, according to the National Weather Service.

There have been a number of events cancelled and postponed due to the inclement weather. Here's a running list of what we know. Plus, reminders about town ordinances on snow removal and parking restrictions.

Cancellations/Postponements/Closings

— Caldwell College will be closed on Saturday. All classes are cancelled. 

— The Caldwell Public Library will close at 1 p.m. on Friday., reopening Saturday at 10 a.m.

— Coaches vs. Cancer and James Caldwell High School girls and boys basketball games scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9 have been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 16. 

—All West Caldwell Recreation and North Caldwell Recreation activities are cancelled for Friday and Saturday.

—The Caldwell Board of Health has rescheduled a Rabies Clinic from this Saturday to next Saturday, Feb. 16, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

—The Caldwell Community Center has cancelled fitness and swim classes for Saturday. 

Cub Scout Pack 6 meeting scheduled for Friday has been cancelled. Pinewood Derby awards will be given later in the month.

Parking

— There will be no parking on Essex County roads beginning Friday at 2 p.m. in order for roads to be cleared safely.

North Caldwell Police will enforce the no parking ordinance on borough roads beginning at 8 a.m. Friday. Vehicles left in roadways will be towed.

Caldwell has also reminded residents parking is prohibited on snow-covered roadways.

West Caldwell posted snow removal rules recently on its website.

Snow Removal

North Caldwell is reminding residents snow should not be pushed or thrown into roadways.

— All sidewalks in North Caldwell must be cleared within 24 hours after the end of the storm.

— Residents are asked to remove snow around fire hydrants located on their properties.

—Reminder: New Jersey drivers could face up to a $75 fine for failing to clean the ice and snow off their cars.

Garbage Pickup

— Trash pickup scheduled for Saturday in North Caldwell will be postponed until Monday, Feb. 11. You will have your trash pickup on Monday morning instead of Saturday as usual.

Schools 

— Essex County College West Caldwell Campus closing at 2 p.m. Friday.

— Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools will follow an early dismissal schedule Friday.Check the website for details.

— West Essex Regional Schools will have an early dismissal Friday. All after-school activities are cancelled.  

— Caldwell College has canceled classes for Friday. A decision about Saturday has not been made.

— Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell will be closed on Friday, and a semi-formal scheduled for Friday night has been postponed.

— High School Region Orchestra
Since Sparta High School is closed Friday, Feb. 8, rehearsal is canceled. Rehearsal is also canceled for Saturday, Feb. 9. For Sunday, the Orchestra will meet at noon and the concert will begin at 6 p.m. to allow for make-up practice time. Bring a bag dinner and drink as no food will be available to purchase.

 High School Region Chorus
Depending on when the snow stops will determine the meeting time for Saturday’s rehearsal time and concert. Tentative report time will be 4 p.m. with the concert beginning at 6 p.m. Please check back by 1 p.m. Friday for a confirmation or a change in this time schedule.

— The Caldwell College Hoops and Hoopla alumni event scheduled to take place on Feb 9 has been postponed and new date is to be determined.
