Teens Struck by Car on New Year's Eve

West Caldwell Police say dark car never stopped, would have damage on the passenger side.

Two teenage girls were victims of a hit and run on New Year's Eve, according to West Caldwell Police.

Both girls suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and one was taken to the hospital, police said. 

The girls, ages 15 and 16, were walking along Smull Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m. Monday when they were hit by what was described as a dark car. The car never stopped and continued south on Smull, according to police.

The girls were part of a group of seven teenagers who were walking south on Smull Avenue between Elmwood Terrace and Marshall Street. 

The one girl was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson by the West Essex First Aid Squad.

Police would not provide further details on the incident due to the ongoing investigation.

The vehicle is described as dark and will have damage on the passenger side due to the impact.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the hit and run to call 973-226-4114. Calls will be kept confidential.
