Purses Nabbed from Cars in Pool Lot

West Caldwell Police investigating multiple car burglaries.

Several women had their purses stolen while they were parked at a West Caldwell town pool Friday afternoon. 

The burglar or burglars smashed the windows of four cars parked at the between 1:45 and 3:15 p.m., according to the West Caldwell Police.

A pocketbook was nabbed from each of the cars. The purses contained cash, credit cards, driver’s licenses and other personal items, police said.

The victims are women from West Caldwell, Roseland, Fairfield and East Hanover.

All four cars were parked in the same area of the Westville Avenue lot.

Police said a local church group that had been handing out flyers in the lot Friday was investigated but no connection was found to the car burglaries.

The burglaries remain under investigation and police will be patrolling the lots more often while the pool is open.

West Caldwell Police Chief Michael Bramhall warned, “When leaving valuables in a car, make every attempt to conceal them."
