North Caldwell Man Dies in Connecticut Canoe Accident

Jeffrey Young, 24, died when his canoe overturned Saturday afternoon in the Long Island Sound.

A 24-year-old North Caldwell man died Saturday when his canoe overturned in the Long Island Sound off the shore of Connecticut.

Jeffrey Young was found without a pulse at about 2 p.m. Saturday near Silver Sands State Park and Charles Island off the coast of Milford Conn., according to the Connecticut Post.

The U.S. Coast Guard performed CPR on Young, who was transported to Milford Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the article said. An unidentified woman was also taken to the hospital where she was treated for hypothermia and released, according to the article.

According to his Facebook page, Young was a West Essex High School grad who was living in Milford, Conn.

A small-craft advisory had been issued for the area where the canoe overturned on Saturday with wind gusts up to 25 knots and waves about 2 feet.
