He was selected for this prestigious honor for a variety of reasons. He led the department in 2013 with seven drunken driving arrests. He also was ranked in the top four for the department in all major statistical categories: total motor vehicle stops (1st), motor vehicle summonses issued (2nd), total cases handled (2nd), calls per officer (3rd) and total arrests (4th).

McGrory was one of six Fairfield officers in January to receive a life-saving commendation for their work in saving the life of a man went into cardiac and respiratory arrest while he was training at a martial arts school on Passaic Avenue in December 2013. The life saving efforts undertaken by those officers, including McGrory, allowed the victim to make a full recovery.
