Man Who Hit Phone Pole Charged With Drunk Driving

No serious injuries were reported.

The driver of a black Mercedes who struck a telephone pole on Passaic Avenue in West Caldwell Sunday was charged with drunk driving, according to West Caldwell Police Chief Michael Bramhall.

Kostantin Kilakos, 54, was traveling south on Passaic at 4:45 p.m. when he mounted the curb and struck the pole with the front passenger side of his full-size S500 Mercedes, Bramhall said.

Kilakos was treated for minor injuries on the scene and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. There were no other passengers in the car.

Kilakos was charged with both drunk driving and careless driving, Bramhall said. He has a mandatory court date of April 20.

Passaic Avenue was open to local traffic only from Westville to Harrison avenues until 2 a.m. while the pole was repaired.

West Caldwell Officer David Vanderclock is investigating the crash.

Correction: The article originally said incorrectly that Passaic Avenue was closed to local traffic.

"Passaic Avenue was closed to local traffic only. . . " Why would it be closed to LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY? Does this mean that if I lived on that stretch of Passaic, I wouldn't be allowed to go home, but THROUGH traffic could pass?

The details of this accident were provided to both The Progress and The Patch late in the afternoon on Tuesday April 12, 2011. The local editor of this site is not to blame for this press release being posted 2 days after the accident.

There was a fatal car accident in Roseland last night. Nothing in papers?

I assume you are NOT talking about me. There is nothing confusing about what I wrote. And BTW, alcoholsim isn't something to mock. It has claimed a lot of good people in my life, and I'm guessing in your life as well. Please apologise.

Scotty, what was said makes perfect sense the patch is supposed to be a site that is posting current news about whats happening now in the Caldwells area. As of right now that is not happening. Was making the point that if you go to other areas patches they are updated much quicker then ours is. When this site first launched it was ran By Mike and a hand full of contributers who were updateing two or three times more a day with news as it was happening. Now your lucky if its two days later filled with inaccuracies. If you go to the About Us Page there are over 30 local contributers who can't seem to get somthing on here before its in the ledger. And to Chief Bramhall in no way was my comment directed at you or your aggency they are a great group of guys and im sure they did a thorough investigation but that doesn't mean the patch shouldn't be reporting whats going on around town until an investigation is complete. Should we all wait a couple of weeks to find out about a home invasion?
