Brake Failure Cause of North Caldwell Crash

North Caldwell Police say the victim was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries after striking utility pole on Grandview Avenue.

Failing brakes led to a Sunday morning crash on Grandview Avenue that sent a 52-year-old woman from Little Falls to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, North Caldwell Police said.

Chief Mark Deuer said the woman was driving along Grandview at about 10:45 a.m. when her brakes failed suddenly.

"It was a single-car accident and she was the only passenger," he said. "She struck a utility pole ... and had to be extricated from the vehicle."

The North Caldwell Fire Department was dispatched to help out at the scene, Deuer said.

After she was freed, according to the chief, the woman was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not disclosed.

Deuer said the crash required a shut down of Grandview Avenue while PSE&G crews replaced the damaged utility pole.
