Lightning Strike Closes Passaic Avenue for Hours

Lightning hit transformer, sparking fire and downing power lines Tuesday between Westville and Harrison avenues.

A lightning strike hit a transformer, sparking a fire and closed Passaic Avenue in West Caldwell for hours on Tuesday.

The strike happened at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and closed the roadway between Westville to Harrison avenues, according to an alert from the West Caldwell Police Department.

The lightning hit a transformer and downed power lines in the roadway, police said.

Passaic Avenue was re-opened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.
