Caldwell Police Officer Released From Hospital

Sgt. Fred Arnold has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility after suffering a heart attack two weeks ago.

A Caldwell police officer who was hospitalized two weeks ago after suffering a heart attack has been transferred into a rehabilitation facility, the Caldwell Police Department announced Friday.

"We are happy to announce Sgt. [Fred] Arnold has been released from Mountainside Hospital and transferred to another facility where he has started his rehabilitation program," states a post on the Caldwell Police Facebook page.

Sgt. Arnold was found "unconscious and unresponsive" inside his marked patrol car after crashing near the intersection of Ravine Avenue and Francis Place shortly after 1 p.m. on June 6, police officials said.

Arnold was rushed to Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge by the West Essex First Aid Squad with the help of a police escort which included vehicles from Montclair, Essex Fells and other local departments.

Arnold, a veteran member of the Caldwell force and D.A.R.E. officer for the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District, is a beloved member of the community.

Caldwell Police also shared this message Friday. "On behalf of Sgt. Arnold and his family, we would like to thank everyone so very much for the amazing amount of support and positive thoughts sent his way."
