Barking Dog Foils North Caldwell Burglary Attempt

A Brookside Terrace resident found a rear-yard window shattered late Friday night.

A North Caldwell woman found a rear-yard window shattered this weekend after someone attempted to break into her home, according to police.

The attempted break-in happened at a Brookside Terrace home shortly before midnight on Friday, North Caldwell Police Chief Mark Deuer said. A female resident, who was home at the time, reported hearing a window break followed by barking from her doberman pinscher, according to Deuer.

Police found a double-pane window shattered and a cushion taken from the nearby patio furniture placed over the broken glass. The would-be burglar is believed to have kicked in the window leading into the home’s family room, and was scared off by the dog’s barking, Deuer said.
