Letter: Babysitting at Caldwell Community Center

Writer is a local mom looking for families interested in joining Caldwell Community Center if they would extend childcare hours.

I wanted a chance to reach out to the families in our community, regarding the Caldwell Community Center in the center of our terrific town. This is a wonderful resource for local families and in case you didn't know—they just underwent some renovations that included an updated daycare room last month.

As a West Caldwell Resident and working mother of two children, I would love to join this center due to the tremendous amount of activities and resources they have available! My only issue with joining the Caldwell Community Center is their babysitting hours. My girlfriends and I have small toddlers and would like to join with our families, but we don't have anyone that can watch our kids while we work out a few days a week.

The only weekday babysiting is from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m., Monday through Friday, which doesn't benefit working families. The majority of parents in the Caldwells work full-time and would like to work out at the Community Center instead of one of the local gyms so our children can also participate in swimming and lessons, too. How are we supposed to get in a 30 to 45 minute workout if we don't get home from work until 5 p.m. and don't have someone to watch our children?  The only times available for working parents is Saturdays and Sundays from 8:15 to 11:45 a.m. While that is helpful....we all know that a good workout routine should be at least three days a week. I contacted the center and asked why can't they at least offer two weekdays from 6 to 8 p.m.?

I spoke to the Director and he said said they've tried offering babysitting over the past 9 years on and off and nobody used it. He said that if we could get a few families to join and utilize this service, he'd be happy to offer it—he even said they might be able to offer a few trial passes for families to see the new gym and all it has to offer.

Please reach out and let me know if you'd like to take advantage of this and possibly we can all agree on two nights a week that would benefit all of us?

Feel free to email me, Melanie Franco, at francome76@gmail.com. I can coordinate this and would be happy to request some trial passes for our families.

I look forward to hearing from a few other mothers that might be in the same situation as myself.

Maybe have your husband or a friend watch your children. If they don't have babysitting I am sure there is a good reason

There is a reason! Not enough current ccc families needing daycare on weeknights. I am reaching out to see if anyone else would want to Join the ccc if they offered it. Fyi...ive received a couple emails already of other moms that never joined because of the same issue. So..this not only benefits me...but the ccc too...who might get families to join.
