George W. Rosa, 79

Rosa worked for Eastern Airlines, enjoyed fishing, sports and spending time with friends and family.

George W. Rosa, 79, of Caldwell, died at home on Sept. 17, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Internment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, NJ.

Born in Newark, NJ, Rosa was the son of the late George W. Rosa, Sr. and the late Victoria Silkowski Rosa Grimley and was raised primarily in Keansburg, NJ.  He graduated in 1952 from Middletown High School (North) and afterwards enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War and until 1956.

In 1956, Rosa was hired by Eastern Airlines where he held many positions until his retirement in 1988. Afterwards, he continued to work part time for several local businesses.  

He is survived by Barbara Anderson Rosa, his beloved wife of 51 years,  formerly of Carteret, NJ, where they wed, raised their four children and resided for 49 years before moving to Caldwell.

Rosa enjoyed traveling, fishing, coaching, scouting, spectator sports and spending time with friends and family.

George was the beloved father of Cynthia Rosa of North Canton, OH, Doreen Vatalaro of Bear, DE and her husband Peter, Douglas Rosa of West Caldwell, NJ and his wife Dorothy and Kristine Rosa of North Canton, OH. George was also the beloved grandfather of Michelle, Timothy, John, Matthew, Elizabeth, Alexander and Nicholas.

Memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church of Verona, NJ or American Home Care & Hospice.
