5 New West Essex High School Students Named ShopRite Stars

Each student winner will have their photograph displayed in the high school main office and in the West Caldwell ShopRite.

The West Essex High School winners of ShopRite's stars program for the fall semester are in. 

West Essex High School Principal Gary Suda recently named the winners, who are:

  • Roseland senior Emily D'Elia for academics;
  • Fairfield senior Victoria Agrifolio for the arts;
  • Fairfield senior Kaitlyn Struss for athletics;
  • Roseland senior Michael Colavita for leadership; and
  • North Caldwell senior Heather Krannich for service to the community.

Emily is a member of the West Essex chapters of the National Honor Society, the Italian Honor Society and has a 4.89 GPA. She earned a 35 out of 36 on her ACT ranking among the top 1 percent of test takers in the country.

Victoria is a longtime dancer who has performed with the NYC Ballet and is a dancer at the New Jersey School of Ballet. She will perform as Clara in the Nutcracker at the Morristown Performing Arts Center this holiday season and hopes to study dance journalism in college. She is editor-in-chief of the West Essex Wire. 

Kaitlyn is a captain and leading scorer for the West Essex Field Hockey team this year and is ranked ninth on the state leader board.

Michael is a National Merit Commended Scholar and is a drum major with the West Essex Marching Band. 

Heather served as Lt. Governor for the 18th Division of Key Club and served as secretary for the West Essex chapter and is involved in WeCare.

Each marking period, Suda asks high school staff members to nominate students for the ShopRite Stars program recognizing their accomplishments in academics, the arts, athletics, leadership and service to the community. 

Each student winner will have their photograph displayed in the high school main office and in the West Caldwell ShopRite. ShopRite will also make a $1,000 donation to project graduation 2014. 

The program was created by Mr. Ned Gladstein, the owner of ShopRite in West Caldwell in 1999 to recognize the accomplishments of West Essex High School students.
