Notre Dame Parishioners Sleep Out to Raise Homelessness Awareness

Approximately 25 teens slept out on the front lawn of Notre Dame Church in cardboard boxes to bring awareness to homelessness and hunger. Parishioners were invited to come to the North Caldwells church during the evening with non-perishable food items to be donated to the food pantry and to those in need locally. Attendees filled 3 shopping carts with donations, according to Communications Director Terrie Michaels.

According to Michaels:

“At the beginning of the evening, the group met in the parish center foyer for some prayer time and to discuss homelessness and poverty in the US and around the world. Some of the statistics were unbelievable.

“The weather was not too cold, but cold enough to give the teens an idea of how uncomfortable it can get being out in the elements and not having a home. Sleeping in the boxes, proved to be a bit uncomfortable for some, there were no complaints, because again it made them realize that there are people who actually have to do this every night.”
