In honor of New Jersey's 350th anniversary, the West Caldwell Public Library will present a lecture titled "The Great Road: A History of Bloomfield Avenue" featuring David Cowell, former Professor of Political Science at Drew University and president of the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association, on Wednesday, April 23 at 7:00 pm in the Community Room.
Bloomfield Avenue was the main thoroughfare that linked Newark with outlying communities in Essex County. It provided an avenue for local farmers to transport and sell their crops to markets and customers in Newark as well as other cities. This mini-history about a very important road will prove of interest to long-time and new residents.
This lecture, funded by Bob and Janet Markman, is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. To sign-up, call the Library at 973-226-5441 or sign-up online at http://greatroad.eventbrite.com.
