Local Singer to Perform in Manhattan and Montclair

- ‘It
Takes a Village’ Choral Concert
-family friendly; to include media illustrations

West Caldwell resident Alison Self  will be performing in concert with Schola Cantorum on Hudson in Montclair, NJ, on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 5pm. The concert focuses on the significance of stories and fairytales to the growth and development of children, taking its title,  It Takes a Village, from the West African saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  The concert will open with composer Joan Szymko’s choral setting of the title text.

Additional choral selections include humorous twists on well-known tunes,

several songs by Sweet Honey in the Rock, and musical settings of a few actual
stories.

The concerts are particularly child-friendly, and children under the age of 12 who bring an adult will be admitted FREE!  All are encouraged to bring their iOS or Android devices, as there will be synced media illustrations available to all who choose to log in.

Tickets for the concerts can be purchased in advance on the web site for $20, or at the door for $25.  All of Schola’s concerts are produced both in Manhattan (Church of St. Paul the Apostle, just south of Lincoln Center) and in Montclair, NJ (Church of the Immaculate Conception).  Be sure to subscribe to our mailing list to ensure timely notice of SCH news.  www.ScholaOnHudson.org
