The Zenas Crane Homestead, a pre-Civil War structure, is festively decorated, featuring a seven foot tree, special holiday exhibits, a Christmas Workshop for children, docent-guided tours and mannequins resplendent in Victorian garb. Unique exhibits at the Crane House include:
- “Timeless Holiday Plates” dating from before the 1890’s to the present time
- “Santas Throughout the Ages”
- Selected Nativity displays
- Children’s iron toys
- Old Caldwell’s War of 1812 NJ Militia flag, a rare artifact from two centuries ago
A special Holiday Ornament Workshop for children will also be held at the Crane Homestead, featuring instruction on simple crafts that result in tree ornaments that children can take home.
From 3:30 to 4:30 pm children are invited for “Story Hour,” featuring readings of beloved holiday classics.
“The Christmas Walk,” organized annually by the Kiwanis Club of Caldwell-West Essex, features tours of homes in the area decorated for the holiday season from noon to 4:30.
