It is a happy coincidence that the tenth anniversary of the Lumen Center occurs during the year in which we read Luke's Gospel at the Sunday liturgy. In Luke's account, Jesus began his ministry in the synagogue at Nazareth, where he preached his inaugural sermon. He chose as his text the prophet Isaiah's commission as the anointed of the Lord, and to announce a year of favor from the Lord. This commission provides both the agenda for Jesus' ministry and the pattern for Christian discipleship. During this two-week course, we will read the key texts of Luke's Gospel that highlight these themes and discuss their relevance for a contemporary Christian spirituality.
