Concert in Honor of Mme. Ernestine Schuman-Heink

Romanian tenor Florin Ormenisan and NJ
soprano Christa Carlucci
will perform in an afternoon concert that will also include recordings of 19th century contralto Mme. Ernestine Schumann-Heink. This
unusual event celebrates the centennial of a benefit performance by Mme.
Schumann-Heink in support of preservation of the Birthplace of President Grover
Cleveland in 1913. The performances will be at the original Caldwell, NJ venue
used in 1913, the historic church where the President’s father was a minister. Rev.

Barbara Jo Piercy is the accompanist.

Florin Ormenisan
was educated at the National University of Music, Bucharest, Romania and earned
a Master of Performing Arts at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He has
received the Vienna ProArt International Prize, Career Bridges Award, and the Operalia of Paris Award. Florin Ormenisan has sung with Vienna Staatsoper, Vienna

in Manhattan.

Born in poverty, Madame Ernestine Schumann-Heink (1861-1936)
began singing in public as an unknown teenager. By the time she moved to the
US, at age 48, music critics in Europe and the United States lauded her as
"the world's outstanding contralto." From April 1906 to December 1911
she lived at North Caldwell and became an active supporter of the community and
performed to help raise funds to save President Cleveland’s birthplace..
