2013 Essex County Historic Holiday House Tour 12/7 and 12/8

2013 Essex County Historic Holiday House Tour - Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8

The Essex County 2013 Historic Holiday House Tour enables the public is

invited to take a self-guided tour of the homes and grounds decorated for

the holidays.



This year the tour has been expanded to include 17 historic sites around

Essex County.


The tour includes perennial favorites, such as the Crane Homestead at West

Caldwell, the Grover Cleveland Birthplace at Caldwell, Kip’s Castle in

Verona, the Walther House at the Essex County Presby Memorial Iris Gardens at Montclair and the Canfield-Morgan House and Museum at Cedar Grove.



Newcomers include the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark,

Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills, Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center in

Bloomfield and The Salvatorian Fathers Catholic Church in Verona.



“The Holiday House Tour is a great example of organizations throughout the

County pooling their resources to create a wonderful event for families to

enjoy and to provide insight into how past holidays were celebrated,”

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo said.



The tours will be held at the following locations; Check descriptions as

Ballantine House at Newark Museum

49 Washington Street, Newark

Suggested admission is $10 for adults, $6 for children, seniors and

students, and free for Newark Museum members. Open 12 Noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.



Canfield-Morgan House and Museum

903 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove

Admission is free. Donations are accepted. Open 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday

and Sunday.



Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart

to 7:30 p.m.



Essex County Kip’s Castle Park

Glenmont at Thomas Edison National Historical Park

purchased at the Park’s Visitor Center and include access to the

Laboratory Complex. Glenmont is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and

Sunday by tour only. The Laboratory Complex is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

on Saturday and Sunday.



Greenwood Gardens

Grover Cleveland Birthplace

The public can visit each site at their own pace. The houses will be

exquisitely decorated for the holidays and be open for public viewing.

Each site will offer something unique, including musical entertainment,

refreshments or educational programs. There may be an admission fee at
