A tornado watch is in effect for Essex County and several surrounding northeastern New Jersey and southeastern New York counties from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS predicts hard driving rainfall of between 0.5 and 1 inch to cause minor urban flooding with a localized urban flash flood threat possible in some areas. Winds of between 19 and 24 miles per hour are expected this afternoon, with gusts reaching as high as 36 miles per hour.

As of 11 a.m., PSE&G had yet to report any power outages in the Caldwells on their outage information map.
