Cipoletti and Lanfrank Voted Onto C-WC Board of Education, Caldwell Council Remains Republican

The Republicans on the Caldwell Borough Council won Tuesday by a narrow margin.

Both incumbents running in the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education election Tuesday lost their seats, according to preliminary results. 

New comers Dan Cipoletti and Marie Lanfrank were elected to the school board with 24.6 and 24.4 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results. 

Incumbents John King and Rosanne Hansen lost their re-election bids, receiving 18.2 and 18.1 percent of the vote, respectively, according to preliminary results.

Candidate Charles Alberta came in fifth, carrying only 14.4 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. 

There were 6,157 votes cast in Tuesday's election.

Cipoletti and Lanfrank will serve on the board for three-year terms. 

Caldwell Council 

Republicans will retain control of the Caldwell Council after Tuesday's election.   

Republicans Thomas O'Donnell and Pasquale Capozzoli were elected to the Caldwell Council with 25.1 and 25 percent of the vote, respectively, according to preliminary results. 

Democrats Grace Kerrigan and Maureen McNish trailed with 24.8 and 24.9 percent of the vote, respectively, according to preliminary results. 

Capozzoli will replace Republican John Coyle, who did not seek re-election. 

The Republicans won Tuesday by a narrow margin. Republicans O'Donnell and Capozzoli received 1,080 and 1,075 votes, respectively, compared to Democrats Kerrigan and McNish who received 1,065 and 1,071 votes, respectively, according to preliminary votes. 

There were 4,291 ballots cast in Tuesday's election, according to preliminary results. 

The majority of the council will remain Republican. In addition to O'Donnell and Capozzoli, the council is made up of Republicans Richard Hauser and led by Mayor Ann Dassing. 

The Democrats on council are John Kelly, Frank Rodgers and Edward Durkin Jr. 

North Caldwell Council

North Caldwell Council will remain solidly Republican but add a new face to the mix.  

Newcomer Joshua Raymond, a Republican, ran uncontested in the election Tuesday along with fellow Republican Arthur Rees. Raymond and Rees garnered 49.5 and 49.7 percent of the vote, respectively, according to preliminary results. 

Both seats carry three-year terms.

Raymond will replace Republican James Campbell, who did not seek re-election.

West Caldwell Council 

The West Caldwell Council will remain unchanged and solidly Republican after Tuesday’s election.

Republican incumbents Stephen Wolsky and Joseph Cecere ran uncontested in the election. Wolsky and Cecere received 48.7 and 50.8 precent of the vote, respectively, according to preliminary results. 

The West Caldwell Council will soon appoint a new councilman to serve out the remainder Councilman Dominick Aiello’s term, who recently announced he will step down in November. His current term expires in 2014.
