Christie Carries All Three Caldwells In 2013 Election

Gov. Chris Christie handily won re-election Tuesday and the Caldwells gave him their full support.

The Caldwells proved themselves once again to be a Republican stronghold as residents in all three municipalities voted for Christie and his running mate Kim Guadagno.

The Republican governor received 3,797 votes, compared to Democratic challenger Barbara Buono, who received 2,004, according to unofficial results.

Christie carried 65.4 percent of the vote in the Caldwells, to Buono’s 34.5 percent, according to preliminary results.

The Caldwells also supported the public question concerning raising the minimum wage to $8.25 and tying it to inflation, with 59.9 percent voting “yes” and 40 percent voting “no.”

Residents in the Caldwells voted similarly Tuesday as they did in October's special state Senate election. The majority of the Caldwells voted in favor of Republican Steve Lonegan, who lost to now Democratic state Sen. Corey Booker.
