Week in Review: Gas Station Robbed, Flotation Devices Banned, Chef Gennaro Returns

Here's what you may have missed this week...

A man wearing a mask robbed a gas station at gunpoint Sunday night, according to . The armed robber got away with an undermined amount of cash and only a vague description is available of the man.

The West Caldwell Council unanimously passed a $1.35 million bond ordinance Tuesday to move ahead with improvements to , which include installing new lights at the baseball fields. Residents in the surrounding neighborhood expressed reservations about the lights, as well as increased traffic, problems with maintaining the established 9:30 p.m. curfew, and the cost of the project.

Sergio Sanzari, the owner of The Mane Place II Salon in Verona for the last 25 years, died on Sunday, July 15 at age 47. Friends and family described Sanzari, a resident of North Caldwell, as always having a real connection with his customers. He enjoyed chatting while cutting hair and especially enjoyed making people laugh.

Almost everything is new at Gennaro's Cucina in West Caldwell, with one notable exception. Husband and wife owners Tom and Bonnie Graziano are proud to bring Gennaro Romeo back to this location at 40 Clinton Road, where he worked for about a decade when it was home to the popular Italianisimo.

The Caldwell Council has picked a controversial property on Personette Street as a potential open space acquisition. The council voted 5-0 Tuesday to explore buying 27 Personette St., the longtime location of the Knights of Columbus Hall, which is back on the market after a  recently fell through.
