Local Foundation Collects Toys for Sick Children

The Jackson Malia Fund for Children with Special Needs was created to spread joy and love to sick children and children in need during the holidays.

More than 150 people attended the fifth annual Jackson Malia Toy Drive and Breakfast With Santa at the West Caldwell Civic Center Sunday morning.

The event is organized by the Malia family of West Caldwell in memory of Jackson "Jack" Malia who passed away shortly after Christmas in early 2008.

The Jackson Malia Fund for Children with Special Needs was created to spread joy and love to sick children and children in need during the holidays.

About one hundred unwrapped toys were collected Sunday in addition to the hundreds already collected before the event.

The gifts will be distributed to the Children's Hospital of New Jersey and St. Joseph’s Children's Hospital in Paterson, as well as other locations.

On Sunday, children got to visit and take their photos with Santa as well as enjoy various activities, such as face painting, balloon animals and crafts.
