Letter: Renter Peeved Over Parking Permit Overhaul

The writer is a tenant in Caldwell who can't get a permit in Hanford Lot after daytime spots were reduced.

I live at 399 Bloomfield Ave. The entrance to my apartment is through the Handford lot.

I went to get my permit and was informed that I could purchase a night permit for that lot but not a daytime one as they had been "sold out." I was confused by this statement of "sold out". They have they are issuing. The officer then informed me that the lot across the street (Gould) was also sold out for daytime permits. My ONLY option was to purchase a permit for behind the .

So the town would like for me to wake up at 6 a.m. every day and move my car from the Handford lot to the Caldwell Diner lot then walk back home to get ready for work then walk back to get my car again. All for the lovely cost of $180 per quarter [$90 for day+$90 for night].

I have been buying permits for two years. On the application is my address and phone number. I did not receive a notice of any kind telling me that they would be limiting the spots for the permits.

So they have no qualms about charging an absurd amount of money for you to park your car, but you can't park your car by your house. Renters of Caldwell are getting screwed! For the amount of money we pay we should be allowed to pick our lot!
