Cross Trail Squares Offer Square Dancing Lessons in Caldwell

Free barn dance Thursday kicks off series of introductory lessons at Grover Cleveland Middle School.

The Cross Trail Squares square dancing club is offering a free barn dance Thursday at Grover Cleveland Middle School in Caldwell.

The dance begins at 7:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend and learn more about an upcoming series of introductory dance lessons.

Square dancing is done to all kinds of music, including country, rock, classical, folk, Broadway show tunes and more. Participants will learn to follow a pattern of steps created by a live caller.

The series of 12 lessons costs $48. Lessons run for three hours on Thursday evenings. A partner is helpful but singles are also welcome at lessons.

The Cross Trail Squares are celebrating their 45th anniversary.

“Many recent students have included empty nesters, couples looking for a joint hobby or date night, and children of current dancers,” stated a release from the Cross Trail Squares. “Upon completion, a dancer can participate in dances anywhere in the world, because all the calls are in English.”

This is a fabulous activity for empty nesters who have participated in their children's activities and now would like to find a fun activity for themselves. Low cost but high in terms of reducing stress, meeting new people, and getting some exercise while skipping a gym. The open house is free and welcomes all from any community!

I love square dancing and have done it for over 20 years. I have made life long friends and encourage everyone to try it.

Thanks for sharing Mary. I have tried square dancing a couple of times and it was a lot of fun and definitely a workout. I too love to dance as evidenced in my participation last year in Dancing With Our Community Stars. Here's info about this year's event if you would like to attend: http://patch.com/A-0XYS
