Pop Star Speaks With CWC Choral Students About Music Industry, Following Dreams

Tiffany Houghton surprised students with her visit earlier this month.

West Caldwell, NJ – Students in Choral Director Elsie Timpson’s classes were surprised with a special visitor on Tuesday, June 3, when up and coming pop star Tiffany Houghton spoke to the choral classes about her singing career, the music industry, and following your dream.

Houghton, a Dallas native who released her debut single “High” on August 13, 2013, moved to Nashville right out of high school and now lives in Los Angeles. She is a singer, songwriter with MTV’s Buzzworthy and has released three new acoustic songs and videos. Dubbed “America’s Newest Sweetheart”, her YouTube video of “High” has exceeded 1.2 million views.

“The students were very excited to speak with someone who is just starting to make a name for herself in the industry,” said Timpson. “This was a chance for the students to find out first-hand what is really involved in a beginning a successful music career.”

Houghton performed several music numbers for the choral students and answered questions about the music business as a performer and songwriter, her upcoming summer tour, and being true to yourself.

“It is pretty exciting to speak with someone who is actually working in the industry,” said one student. “It will be cool to see where she is a year or even two years from now”
