What do You Remember About the Park Theatre in Caldwell?

The Park Theatre was a beloved destination and landmark in Caldwell from 1925 until it burnt down in 1974. What do you remember about it?

Several of you have been reminiscing during the past couple days about the beloved Park Theatre that stood on the corner of Forest and Bloomfield avenues in Caldwell from 1925 to 1974 — when it burnt down in a terrible fire.

Here are some pictures from the Caldwell Public Library's Local History Collection to help spur more of your memories.

Although we don't have exact dates for most of these photos, we can begin to place them by looking at what’s on the theatre marquee in each picture: The Last Time I Saw Paris, starring Elizabeth Taylor, and Athena, starring Jane Powell, both came out in 1954. A Nun’s Story starring Audrey Hepburn was released  in 1959. Woody Allen's What’s up Tiger Lily, Sleeper, and Bananas were the last titles ever put up on the Park Theatre marquee — the triple feature visible through the flames.
