Spencer Savings Bank Honors Elmwood Park Memorial High School Students for Completion of Financial Literacy Program

Elmwood Park, N.J. (January 28, 2014) – Spencer Savings Bank, a community bank headquartered in Elmwood Park, N.J., continued its sponsorship of EverFi Inc.’s Financial Scholars program, a leading web-based, financial literacy program, for Elmwood Park Memorial High School. The program is designed to foster educational growth and prepare local students with the information and skills they need to make smart financial decisions. Spencer Savings Banks hosted a presentation and award ceremony on January 16, 2014, to recognize the first group of 85 students to graduate from the program this year.

EverFi’s program consists of ten web-based modules that make use of the latest in new media technologies, including video, animations, 3-D gaming, avatars, and social networking, to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation. Topics covered in the comprehensive program include credit scores, insurance, credit cards, taxes, investing, savings, 401Ks, and mortgages. The purpose of the program is to give students the ability to apply their learning of important and relevant topics in safe, virtual environments, to weigh the consequences of their choices and practice good decision-making before facing these issues in their daily lives.

The award ceremony held by the Bank on Thursday, January 16, 2014 included brief testimonials from students about their individual experiences, and the presentation of certificates to each student who completed the program, in recognition of their achievement. Spencer Savings Bank’s employees, Janel Bazih, AVP and Marketing Manager, Elizabeth Miazga, Elmwood Park Branch Manager and Anita Guerrero, Marketing Assistant, discussed the importance of receiving financial education at a young age and provided refreshments and treats to reward the students.
