Verizon Promises The Internet Will "Change Forever" On Monday

The company had previously announced they would begin offering Internet service with a maximum download speed of 300 megabits per second this month.

A video uploaded to Verizon's Youtube account Friday promised the Internet will "change forever" Monday but does not specify how, leading to speculation about changes in service for one of Bergen County's most popular high-speed Internet providers.

Verizon announced last month that their FiOS brand would begin offering a new 300 megabits per second (Mbps) service, which is twice the speed of their current fastest option.

A second video uploaded Friday features FiOS Internet Director John Schommer discussing the forthcoming 300 Mbps option, which will also include a maximum upload speed of 65 Mbps.

Technology news website The Verge reported the new service will cost $204.99 per month. The 15 Mbps service, which most customers use, will see a $10 per month price increase, according to the report.

When Verizon began offering FiOS Internet in 2004, the fastest speed available was 30 Mbps.

"No one had an idea how anyone could use that kind of bandwidth," Schommer said in the video.

Schommer said the increase in devices streaming data in the average home warrants higher speed Internet connections.

You must have overlooked the FAR better product part. I would pay 50 more a month just to have fios but knowing its cheaper makes evrytime i use the internet and watch tv feel like christmas....faster internet...cleaner picture....faster, more user friendly, nicer interface, more channels, more hd channels, nfl network, redzone...oh and wait its cheaper too!?!?! I have the fastest internet they offer, every single channel they offer, multi room dvr, two additional hd boxes and only pay 150 a month.....cablevision cant compete at all....i spent 10 minutes explaining to the cablevision salesman who came to my house why its a non compete and how they can improve their service....and for the record i dont shop at walmart.

Verizon and Cable-vision both suck. I think we should go back to old fashion communication and send things information via the US Post office. lol

How'd you get all that for so cheap?? Has anyone else been getting sales people coming around to their door trying to get you to switch to Cablevision with the promotion "ending this month"? I have a feeling the promotion will show up again every month. They offer a good deal, cost wise, but you get what you pay for, right? They're offering Free International Calling and 1 of our favorite international channels for free, and the silver package for $115 for 2 years.

Sheesh! You got to be kidding me.

Verizon used the hype of this new package to cover up the fact that they are raising their prices on some of their most popular and affordable packages and it seems so far that it has worked.
