Twist Frozen Yogurt, Two Salons Join Business Mix

A look at recent business openings and closings in the Caldwells.

A frozen yogurt shop, a women’s boutique and two hair salons are among the businesses to have popped up in the Caldwells recently. On the flip side, a large furniture retailer and a salon specializing in kids’ haircuts have skipped town, heading east to Verona.

After signs in the windows teased local frozen yogurt fans for months, the newest location of Twist finally opened at 749 Bloomfield Ave., in West Caldwell. The shop is located between popular teen hangouts, Chipotle and Game Stop. This is the third location for the self-serve froyo shop, which sells 24 flavors and more than 80 toppings. Others are in Montclair and Westfield.

Runway is Caldwell’s latest clothing retailer, offering fashion-forward styles for women of all ages, from pre-school to tweens, teens and up. The shop on Smull Avenue has a sweet twist—owner Martha Fava of Caldwell has paired up with Andrea Festa Zembelis, of www.lalascookiejar.com and Sugar Rush, to offer candy and other treats. A Dress for Success fundraiser is planned at the shop on Friday, Nov. 16.

Caldwell resident and Jefferson School mom Sofia Espejo has fulfilled her dream of opening her own salon, Sociel, at 520 Bloomfield Ave., in Caldwell. Espejo is a former stylist at The Beauty Source.

Another new salon, European Image Salon took over the space at 418 Bloomfield Ave., previously occupied by Hair Fair. The full-service hair salon is owned by stylist Monica Marino.

D. Marie Home has vacated its large retail space in Caldwell and opened a new design center at 713 Bloomfield Ave., in Verona. Design consultants are available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and by appointment, according to their Facebook page. If you need a house call, the number is 973-857-9600.

Kids’ Cuts Salon, voted Best Barber in the 2012 Patch Readers’ Choice poll, gave its last haircut in Caldwell this month. Norma Brown and her team can now be found at 292 Bloomfield Ave., in Verona. Call 973-239-3828 for appointments—walk-ins are welcome, too.

With all these coming and goings, one business is simply relocating around the corner.

Pupcakes, a dog bakery and grooming salon, is vacating its Roseland Avenue storefront to move into the former home of Kids’ Cuts, 392A Bloomfield Ave., in Caldwell.
