Trader Joe's Coming to Location Near You

Well, sort of. Clifton store set to open in November will technically be the closest to the Caldwells.

West Essex fans of Trader Joe's have long been hoping for the specialty market to open a location in West Caldwell, Livingston or somewhere around the block.

So will a new store 6.7 miles away do?

According to their website, Trader Joe’s will unveil a new location at 259 Allwood Road in Clifton on Friday, Nov. 16. The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week and will not sell alcohol.

The Clifton location will be .43 miles closer than the current closest TJ's 7.3 miles away in Florham Park.

But with the ever-present construction and congestion on Route 3, more pleasant drives to Florham Park, Wayne (7.95 miles) and Millburn (8.78 miles) may still be the better option. After all, die-hard fans know the chocolate covered, peanut butter stuffed pretzels alone are worth the trip.

Time and time again, Caldwells Patch readers report they want a Trader Joe's in their towns whenever a large retail space comes available, such as the old Ace Hardware (rumored to have been vetted) and former Blockbuster.

There's even a Facebook page, We Want-Need a Trader Joe's in the Fairfield/Caldwells Area, with more than 100 followers.

The first Trader Joe's opened in Pasadena, Calif. in 1967.
