Caldwell Pub Tapping 'FU Sandy' Keg For Hurricane Relief Effort

Flying Fish Brewing Co. releases its special Hurricane Sandy brew, with proceeds going to relief efforts. Grab a pint at the Cloverleaf Saturday.

The Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell has one of 86 kegs of FU Sandy beer created by Flying Fish Brewing Co. to help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

The first 36 guests to purchase FU Sandy on Feb. 16 will receive a free commemorative pint glass, according to an announcement on the Cloverleaf's Facebook page. One hundred percent of sales will go to Sandy relief. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Called FU Sandy (the "FU" stands for Forever Unloved, of course), the hybrid white ale was made in part as a fundraiser for New Jersey storm relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy devastation. Flying Fish is hoping to raise $50,000 from the beer and merchandise sales.

Flying Fish first announced FU Sandy on Dec. 20, and now the list of where the beer is on tap is finalized, with the Cloverleaf, the Gaslight Brewery in South Orange and McLoone's Boathouse in West Orange making the list.

Flying Fish, which was founded in Cherry Hill, is Jersey through and through, creating several beers based around the New Jersey Turnpike exits, each with a nod toward the history of the area.

If you are hoping for a six pack, FU Sandy is only available on draft at a long list of places, many of which will be hosting "tapping parties" beginning Feb. 16.

The brewer described the ale contents this way: "Brewed with a 50/50 blend of Two Row Pale Malt and American White Wheat. It is hopped with experimental hop ADHA 483, donated by the American Dwarf Hop Association, which has never been used in a beer before this one. Muller and Head Brewer Casey Hughes expect a beautiful, tropical nose of mangoes and guavas that will accentuate the beer’s soft mouth feel and contribute to a truly one-of-a-kind ale."

Where to grab a pint of FU Sandy this weekend? The list will be updated on Flying Fish's website, here.

This is beyond inappropriate. This is " Jersey Shore" mentality--which contributed to our beloved state's "white trash" reputation. Shame on you, Cloverleaf, for participating.

Thank you Cloverleaf Tavern for once again sponsoring an event to benefit others. Whether it be a fundraiser to support a local family in need, Relay for Life, or supporting those who lost so much from Hurricane Sandy your generous efforts are greatly appreciated by so many.

Ethel, With all due respect, maybe you should read the above article before commenting and jumping to conclusions. While the show Jersey Shore caused some reputation issues for New Jersey, without it, think of all of the people in the world that didn't know that our beautiful shore even existed! SO many people have gone to the extremes to help our state with restoring our beaches, our homes and businesses and our lives. If anything, this tragedy has brought neighbors closer to each other and strengthened our state as a whole. Thank you Flying Fish, and thank you Cloverleaf for yet again demonstrating your generosity towards others.

We could have done without the FU Glass. I agree with Ethel.

We can raise funds and awareness about rebuilding our once beautiful shore ( "Jersey Shore" cast and fans excluded) without profane acronyms. My kids read the Patch-- well, not anymore. It's rated "R" now, of course I mean "Ridiculous" or is it Raunchy??

If you are so upset you should direct your attention to the brewery who named that product. The Cloverleaf was simply trying to raise money for people in need and/or support the cause.
