Bakery and Boutique Bow Out of Caldwell

A couple of Caldwell businesses called it quits after the New Year. 

In the Smull Avenue storefront of Edlyn Sweets, a chalkboard formerly used to highlight specials now thanks loyal customers for their business. A "For Rent" sign also hangs in the window.

Owner Pam Zablow opened Edlyn Sweets with her daughter Laura Halen, both of Verona, in July 2011. The shop specialized in homemade baked goods using recipes passed down from generation to generation.

Zablow said outside the shop Sunday that while they had a good Christmas season, business was tough and they ultimately decided to close. 

She said the lease was good until May and she would continue to take large orders for the foreseeable future. Call 973-226-6424.

Around the corner, 388 Bloomfield Ave. is vacant after Joli Collection packed up at the beginning of the year. The shop located next to Caldwell Seafood sold mostly women's jewelry and accessories.
