A Sequel to Blockbuster?

West Caldwell video store has closed. Share your ideas for a spin-off.

's long goodbye to the Caldwells is finally over. The video retailer confirmed it would shutter the West Caldwell location back in December, and for two months discounted its inventory of movies and video games.

Now the blue and yellow sign is down and contractors were seen sprucing up the place this week.

The retail space, located in Broadway Plaza at the intersection of Bloomfield and Passaic Avenues, is neighbors with , as well as , Radio Shack and .

What kind of business do you think would make a welcome addition to the neighborhood?

You guys have to hope that Shoprite attempts to move onto Bloomfield Avenue. It is something that was mentioned in a previous patch article: http://caldwells.patch.com/articles/stretch-of-bloomfield-avenue-targeted-for-rehabilitation If that happens, then a Trader Joe's could move into the current Shoprite space and it would be a perfect fit.

Ever been to the Trader Joe's in Florham Park? Their "new" location? There IS no parking unless you go at 8:00 on a Sunday morning. Lack of parking would not be the reason Trader Joe's chose not to occupy the former Blockbuster. Parking isn't their agenda.

When I speak to area store owners they all complain of the high rents and say the landlords don't care even if the stores are empty. The more stores that are left empty the less people will want to open a business. There are so many homes for sale that just are not selling. Look at southern Florida and you see how this has taken a very negative effect on their towns. Who will move into the Blockbuster, Heathers, Friendly's, Ace, who knows. The town and the landlords should get together and try to work things out so that it is attractive to bring in new business. Otherwise WC will look totally empty. Last no more pizza and bagel shops!!
