James Caldwell High Nixes Newark Venue For Prom For Safety Reasons, Says NJ.com

What do you think, Caldwells? Should Newark's crime statistics preclude it from consideration for school events?

The James Caldwell High School prom committee nixed a venue in Newark for the location for next year's prom due to safety concerns, NJ.com is reporting.

The Metropolitan Room at the Newark Club was reportedly considered as one of nine potential locations for next year's prom, according to the article. Barbara Yeninas, a marketing consultant from the Newark Club, said a single student from the school's prom committee wrote to her saying Newark was eliminated because the city was "not safe," according to the article.

Superintendent James Heinegg said the prom committee ultimately chose the Skylands in Randolph was because of the cheaper cost, according to NJ.com.

The Metropolitan Room is located in the same building as Seton Hall Law School, which is near Newark Penn Station and the Ironbound section of Newark.
