Library Exhibit Spotlights Artists of All Stripes

Arts and crafts created by West Essex artists go on display at the West Caldwell Library for the month of July.

Starting Monday night, the West Caldwell Library presents a most egalitarian art exhibition.

"Art of Our Ancestors," presented by the Historical Society of West Caldwell, is devoted entirely to art and craft work created by people living in the West Essex region. The show features work from both local professional artists, housewives, teachers, draftspersons and even some unknowns. Some of the works go as far back as the 19th century.

Opening night will offer some one-night-only sights, according to the library's Amy Piazza. She said the meeting room will showcase additional works of art that come down on Tuesday.

Members of the Historical Society will be on hand to share the research and artists biographies as well as to answer any questions. Light refreshments will be served, and all guests will receive a souvenir bookmark.

The free event kicks off Monday evening with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the exhibit will be open from 6-8 p.m. The show runs through the month of July.
