Painting Without a Net Opening Reception

An exhibit of original watercolors by West Caldwell resident Marilyn Rose, entitled, "Painting Without a Net,"  will be on display in the Chase Room of the Madison, NJ, Public Library during the month of July. There will be an artist's reception, open to the public, on Thursday night, July 12, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. 

The title of the exhibit refers to the exuberance and spontaneity which come through in Rose's painting style, and the fact that she refers to working in transparent watercolors as "an act of faith" in which the artist must step back and allow the medium itself to lead the way. Many of the paintings on display were created "en plein air" -- that is, outside, directly from the nature without the use of photos. Some of the paintings in the current exhibit were painted during the prestigious juried Plein Air competitions in Cranford, New Jersey and in Wayne Pennsylvania and include the painting, "Garrett Miil Farms (Everyone's  a Critic)" which garnered an honorable mention in the Pennsylvania competition.

Rose, who has a BFA for Washington University in St. Louis, is an elected member of the Northeast Watercolor Club, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Essex Watercolor Club, and the New Jersey Watercolor Society on whose board she serves as Membership Chair.
