Work Begins at Harrison School Playground

Groundbreaking occurred on Wednesday.

With a break in the weather and an unfrozen ground although quite windy, Kiwanians and educators gathered for the groundbreaking for the Special Kiwanis Playground at West Caldwell’s Harrison School.

“Our goal was to build a safe playground that will allow our youngsters to play and learn from each other without restrictions,” said Kiwanis President MaryAnn Luke. “With the backing of our Board of Directors and a small but determined committee ... we never stopped or even slowed down our effort to make this happen.

"The children and teachers are so excited. ” she added.

“We are very grateful to Kiwanis for this generous donation," said School Superintendent James Heinegg. "In addition to the intrinsic joy that it brings to children, play is also critically important for the development of their creativity, physical coordination, self-discipline, leadership, and skills of cooperation and conflict resolution.  The fact that this particular playground is accessible to all students makes it especially valuable to our entire community. Thank you, Kiwanis!”
