West Essex Officials Plan Sandy Hook Memorial

Residents of North Caldwell, Essex Fells and Roseland asked to pick up two white balloons Friday and hang them on mailboxes or outside their houses all weekend for 'White Balloons for Angels.'

Local officials are asking residents to participate in a unique memorial for victims of the Dec. 14 mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

The towns of North Caldwell, Roseland and Essex Fells are requesting residents pick up two white balloons to display on their mailboxes or on a post outside their homes for the entire weekend.

Borough officials are calling the event, “White Balloons for Angels,” to honor the 20 children whose lives were lost in the massacre.

Roseland Borough Hall is located at 19 Harrison Ave., and balloons will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. Balloons will also be available at the North Caldwell Police Dept., 136 Gould Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Friday.

As you know, the Borough of Roseland is a strong and loving community. We always seem to come together in times of need. This holiday season has been an extremely difficult and tragic one for so many. To support those in Newtown Connecticut, We are asking that all Roseland families participate in a united memorial by picking up two white balloons at Borough Hall on Friday December 28 from 9:30 am to 3:00pm. We ask that everyone hang the balloons either on their mailbox or on a post outside of their home for the entire weekend. We are calling this event "White balloons for Angels" to honor the children who were lost in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.Thank you for your continued support of our children and our great community.
