Caldwell Fire Department Rib-Eating Contest

Nine firefighters and an EMT will compete Saturday in the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department’s first annual rib-eating contest. The contest, organized in conjunction with Hog Wild BBQ in Caldwell, will take place on the municipal parking deck on the corner of Bloomfield and Roseland avenues. Fire departments from Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Livingston, North Caldwell, Roseland, West Caldwell and Verona will be represented, as well as the West Essex First Aid Squad.

Our Lady of the Lake's 2nd annual Kinderfest will takes place Friday from 4 until 9 p.m. Admission is free, and there will be amusements, live music and fun for the whole family. Family-friendly food will be available for purchase from local restaurants. Tickets can be purchased at Kinderfest for rides, attractions, crafts and carnival games. The big dunk tank will be featured again! Kinderfest goes on rain or shine!

Cedar Grove Historical Society Annual Pumpkin/Apple Sale

The Cedar Grove Historical Society will hold its annual Pumpkin/Apple Sale today from 1-5 p.m. and tomorrow and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pumpkins of all sizes and many varieties of apples will be available. Eggplant and tomatoes grown on Morgan’s Farm will also be on sale. Visitors will be able to cut and purchase herbs that were grown in the garden behind the Morgan Museum. Corn stalks, bales of hay, Cedar Grove birdhouses, firewood and Cedar Grove, by Trustee Phil Jaeger will also be on sale. Baked goods will be available on the weekends. All proceeds from the sale will go to help the society continue its work of preserving the history of Cedar Grove and to help with the upkeep and continued improvement of the Morgan Museum.

State Scare Haunted Attraction

State Scare is the scariest indoor haunted attraction in New Jersey. Take a stroll down ‘Maim Street,’ a terrifying little thoroughfare built on the site of the old State Processing Factory, recently razed due to its evil activities. On Maim Street, you’ll find a creepy barber shop, butcher, pub, hotel and 5&10. Come and find out why shoppers are disappearing, and Maim Street isn’t quite what it seems. “Not So Scary Sunday Matinee” for kids, Sundays in October, from 4-6 p.m.
