Potter Passion and More at the Caldwell Cinema, Eagle Scout Honors, and Honor Our Women Day

If you are one of the millions of Harry Potter fans waiting not-so-patiently for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, the wait is drawing to an end! In celebration of the final movie, is gearing up for a weekend-long celebration, beginning with a midnight showing of the movie on Thursday, July 14. 

Based on the Harry Potter novels by British author J. K. Rowling and distributed by Warner Bros., the series consists of eight fantasy films beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, released in 2001, and culminating with the imminent release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

To complement the midnight showing of the newest film, the theater is also hosting a costume contest, awarding first, second and third place prizes for the most Harry Potter-worth costumes. The prizes are too grand to divulge yet, but stay tuned as the date approaches for a sneak peek!

Just can’t make the midnight showing and costume contest, but really want to see the movie?  Never fear! The Cinema will run the movie throughout the weekend, five showings per day at 11 a.m., 1:40 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 15, 16 and 17. Tickets for the midnight and weekend shows are available now through the website or at the Cinema.

Trio Achieves Eagle

Three scouts from of North Caldwell felt a sense of closure as they achieved the highest award available to a Boy Scout and moved from Scout to Eagle Scout. The ceremony, held Friday, June 24, at the North Caldwell Firemen’s Hall, recognized the three Scouts for their achievements, including a special ceremony for the three young men, Andrew Eckart, Matthew Morel and .

Eckart attended high school at Oratory Prep School, Summit, for two years before being admitted to Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, M.A. in 2009.  On May 14, 2011, Andrew earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Simon's Rock, and will attend Vanderbilt this fall where he will study Math or Civil Engineering.

Eckart’s Eagle Scout project was the construction of an information kiosk at the entrance to in Cedar Grove, designed and built to match a similar one that the Essex County Parks Department installed at the other end of the Reservation in North Caldwell.

Morel recently graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School, West Orange, and will attend The College of New Jersey in the fall. Morel’s project involved improving the camp experience for future Scout troops and local families at Camp Wyanokie, West Milford. Morel focused on cleaning and repairing the picnic area, removing graffiti from walls and repairing picnic tables.

A North Caldwell native, recently graduated from , and will study engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University this fall. Traverso’s Eagle Service Project included building a new sign, the moving and restoration of an older sign, and creating a small flower garden at the base of the new sign for , North Caldwell. The project saved money for the school, enabling the purchase of new computers and textbooks.

College Honors Women

Military personnel, veterans and caregivers were treated to a day of relaxation, beauty, health and wellness at Caldwell College’s “Honor Our Women” day.  On Saturday, June 11, women from throughout the military were treated to a beauty day that featured free makeovers and beauty product samples by Lord and Taylor, free haircuts and manicures by Capri Institute, and free facial care samples by Avon. Health and Wellness booths with information on breast health, bone density screenings, counseling, substance abuse counseling, blood pressure checks, medical screenings, and support for caregivers and military benefits information were also available. Former New Jersey First Lady Mary Jo Codey was the keynote speaker, speaking about her struggle with and treatment for depression.

Following a military welcome ceremony, President Dr. Nancy H. Blattner, Ph.D., welcomed the women, expressing gratitude to the military men and women who are currently serving and to those who have served in the past, and noting that Caldwell College is proud of its affiliation with the Veterans Administration. Lisa DiBisceglie, Associate Dean for External Partnerships, concurred with Blattner’s comments, noting that Caldwell College was recently named a Military Friendly School for 2012 by G.I. Jobs magazine.

Co-sponsors for the event included the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the Essex County Executive’s Office, Saint Barnabas Health Care System, N.J. Veteran’s Helpline – UMDNJ and the Veteran’s Center of Bloomfield.
