Cedar Grove residents anxious to meet a star of Bravo TV’s Real Housewives of New Jersey star at a Cedar Grove charity fundraiser Wednesday night were disappointed to learn the star had cancelled because she was ill.
Event organizer Edel DeGangi said she received an apologetic email from Jacqueline Laurita Wednesday evening saying she would not be attending the event to raise money for Cedar Grove resident Frank Napolitano because she came down with an illness after caring for her children the past two days.
“She’s sick as a dog,” DeGangi said Wednesday night.
Laurita said her children were home sick from school the last few days and now she’s sick.
She said Laurita apologized for missing the fundraiser for the family of Frank Napolitano, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in April.
The fundraiser, held at Victor’s Chateau in Little Falls, is a shopping night where people buy tickets to go shop and a portion of the proceeds go to the Napolitano family.
This is the third fundraiser for Napolitano, the first organized by thesassyshopgirl.com, co-owned by Edel DeGangi and Martha Aleman Fava of Caldwell.
Napolitano was sick and did not attend the fundraiser, but his wife, Julie, said the fundraisers were “overwhelming.”
“My friends and family are here,” Julie Napolitano said, adding “Words can’t express how thankful we are. My husband wishes he could be here.
Napolitano said her husband is self-employed and when he cannot work, “he makes no money.”
“The people in this town have been great and very supportive,” Frank Napolitano said in June, adding the family has “had our ups and downs. When you have cancer, it’s not an easy thing to deal with.”
