Couple Who Lost Apartment in Gould Place Fire Thanks Community

Lindsay and Pete Michel suffered personal loss when a fire destroyed their home. When a caring community stepped in to help, they gained something unexpected.

To The Editor:

While we were on our honeymoon, calls came to our cell phones that #12 Gould Place in Caldwell was burning down. I occupied the 3rd floor of that apartment house for the last 4 years of my single life and was planning to start my married life there while saving up for a home purchase over this next year.

Although the last 10 years of my single life have been reduced to ash, my husband and I have found beauty in the friends and neighbors that have rallied around in support of getting us back on our feet.

We will be forever grateful to the Caldwell firemen that risked their lives on the afternoon of January 23. Although the fire claimed the three apartments, no lives were lost. Again, thank you to the brave firefighters who are there when disaster strikes.

Thank you to all who donated on our behalf at the Cloverleaf Tavern "Super Bowl Sunday." To our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and patrons of the ‘Fire and Ice’ fundraiser at the Ringside Tavern and the Tricky Tray fundraiser at the Verona Inn, we are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support to help us rebuild. Your generosity was more than we could have imagined. The money raised and the gift cards donated will help us get back on our feet.

Special thanks to: Mayor Dassing, Mrs. Tofanelli, Parkview Furniture, all the musicians, restaurants, and local businesses that made it possible for us to start over and be made whole again. Finally, to all the event co-ordinators and volunteers, you know who you are, may God bless you as you have blessed us.

Some people give hugs. Some people give help. You gave your all!!!!!

Gratefully yours,
Lindsay and Pete Michel
