Caldwell Vet Among Soldiers Welcomed Back from Afghanistan

PFC Matt O'Hern was deployed to Afghanistan in July 2012.

West Caldwell's PFC Matt O'Hern and his colleagues from the 508th Military Police Company returned from their tours of duty in Afghanistan June 7 and received their official welcome home from the community on July 6, The Alternative Press reports.

On hand for the festivities along with family and friends were members of the American Legion James Caldwell Post 185, along with U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, state Sen. Richard Codey, Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing and West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta.

Tempesta presented O'Hern and his comrades, who serve as part of the New Jersey Army National Guard, with West Caldwell Outstanding Citizenship Awards.

O'Hern, 20, was deployed abroad in July 2012.

The welcome home party, which also honored PFC Oscar Correa, PSC Emily Konzelmann and Sgt. Adam Kraus of the 508th, was held in the upper parking lot of Caldwell's and in the multipurpose room of the Caldwell Fire Department. Guests enjoyed food and drinks donated by local businesses, balloons and DJ-spun music, the article said.
