Bloomfield Avenue Merchants Host Trick-or-Treaters
Most children crowded onto Bloomfield Avenue for safe trick-or-treating as work crews cleaned up power lines around town.
Halloween was not lost for the children of the Caldwells.
Merchants along Bloomfield Avenue - long known for giving out candy on Halloween - rose to the occasion after local police departments warned that trick-or-treating on residential streets may not be safe.
Many local homes remain without power and power lines are down on side streets throughout the Caldwells after a freak snowstorm pounded the area with more than seven inches of snow over the weekend.

Children were encouraged to trick-or-treat at local stores and businesses along Bloomfield Avenue. Police officers were on hand to help at major intersections and businesses kept the celebration going.
Caldwell Flowerland turned the shop into a haunted house. The Caldwell Public Library showed a Laurel and Hardy movie at 3:30 p.m. And although the Community Center's pool was closed, employees still offered generous amounts of candy to visitors.

The after effects of the nor'easter weren't over yet. Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools and Caldwell College announced they would remain closed on Tuesday while power is restored.
