Trinity Academy Participates in Wyland Foundation Mural Contest

Students in Mrs. Bajkowski’s Fifth Grade class at Trinity Academy in Caldwell, have created a large mural in conjunction with the Wyland Foundation’s Mural Contest.  The Wyland Foundation was started by environmental artist Wyland to help children understand the importance of clean oceans and waterways through public art programs. Art Teacher, Mrs. Crump entered the class in a contest to receive the mural canvas, 5’ x 10’ and mural paint. The theme of the mural contest was “Water is Life”.  Prior to painting the mural, the students read stories about undersea adventurers in Mrs. Bajkowski’s Literature class and skyped with Dr. Evan D’Alessandro, Assistant Professor of Marine Biology and Fisheries at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Under the direction of Mrs. Crump, the students painted the background and animals that depend on water. With their Technology Teacher, Mrs. Fiore, the students researched their animal and created a fact sheet on the animal.  A picture of the mural and each student’s fact sheet were combined to create a glog. The glog can be viewed at  http://kefiore.edu.glogster.com/water. By selecting an animal on the mural, the viewer can see a list of facts about that particular animal.
