West Essex Regional Libraries Host "Divergent" Party

The West Essex High School and Middle School Libraries celebrated the movie debut of the Veronica Roth book "Divergent" with a party March 18 after school in the High School Library. More than 35 middle and high school students participated in activities with a "Divergent" theme, including a trivia contest, "archery," fitness, tattoos, "Pin the Protagonist to the Ferris Wheel," Fact or Fiction, and paper flower making. In addition, West Essex students donated over 40 non-perishable food items to CUMAC Food Pantry in Paterson, in honor of the book’s "Abnegation" faction. Students also entered a raffle for a variety of items, including movie posters, journals and even tickets to the movie. "I had a lot of fun, being with my friends, and fellow "Divergent" fans, especially playing the trivia game," said eighth grader Sarah Candido. " Librarians Rosemary Rich and Catherine Spinella, who orga-nized the event, said the event was a huge success. "West Essex students are enthusiastic readers and Ms. Roth’s "Divergent" series has definitely captured the interest and imagination of many of our students," the librarians said.
