West Essex Middle School Announces February Students of the Month

West Essex Middle School Principal David Montgomery and West Essex Middle School Assistant Principal Lisa Tamburri have announced the four Students of the Month for February, 2014.

The 7th Grade Students of the Month are:

Samuel Friedman

Samuel is an incredibly hard working student--he is always aware of what is expected of him and puts forth his best effort to fulfill is responsibilities. He lives up to any challenge that is thrown at him and never complains in the process. Sammy is always friendly, positive and helpful towards his peers. It is clear that he wants to succeed and wants to learn; he takes charge of his own education and makes the most of each and every day. Samuel, a resident of North Caldwell, plays on the middle school and travel ice hockey teams and on a travel baseball team.

Samantha Spero
Having Sam in class is always a refreshing experience; she lights up the room with her positive energy and willingness to complete any activity with a smile on her face. There is never a day she is not organized and ready to work. She single handedly advocates for her own education and for anyone who needs some assistance. Sam never fails to take initiative during class, and she is never afraid to face a difficult task head on in order to meet any challenge presented to her. Samantha, a resident of Roseland enjoys hip hop and jazz dance and performs on the middle school dance team.

The 8th Grade Students of the Month are:

Charles Marashlian

Charles is a well-rounded individual with a bright future ahead of him. He is a hard-working student who always puts forth his best effort into his assignments. Charles shows respect to others and is kind and helpful in group settings. He also has a positive outlook and is eager to learn new things. Charles, a resident of North Caldwell, is an avid skateboarder. He wrestles for the middle school team and also plays baseball.

Bailey Schuster

Bailey is a self-motivated individual who wants to succeed in life. She is respectable, kind and always willing to help others. She always enters the room with a smile on her face and understands the importance of school. Bailey, a resident of Roseland, plays soccer for the middle school and club teams.

Every month, West Essex Middle School will select four students to be recognized and honored as the Students of the Month. Two students from each grade will be selected and the selection for each month will come from one academic team at each grade level. Cross-teamed students will not be neglected and will also be included in the selection process. 

To be selected as a Student of the Month, the middle school staff has decided to base candidates and selections on a review of the “whole” student not just the student with the best grades. Character traits such as honesty, perseverance, responsibility, integrity and leadership as well as a student’s academic qualities will be included in selecting students to be honored.

Honored students will have their pictures displayed in the middle school display case outside of the main office and on the middle school website. Honorees are also recognized during the morning announcements and receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishment, a “Student of the Month” locker magnet and a $5.00 Student Store Gift Card.
